The De Standaard app is a universal application that can be installed on your iPad as well as your iPhone. This app was launched on 30 August 2011 and is brand new (not an upgrade from the previous application). Support for the previous application will terminate soon; users downloading the newest version can delete the previous version from their device.
The iPad version offers you both a digital view of the paper version, as well as a tablet version that was especially developed for this device. The paper version view displays the newspaper as it is printed: you can zoom in on pages or click on articles in order to read them. The tablet version view offers a brand new digital reading experience with dynamic design, easy navigation and extra pictures. The news scan offers a full survey of the newspaper of that day. Users can choose which version has their preference: paper or tablet. With both views, you have access to news updates, five regional editions and all the supplements of De Standaard.
The iPhone version focuses on news updates and current news. There is a photo wall which gives you an overview of the news of the day in pictures. The iPhone version also allows you to download the newspaper. Reading articles is done by clicking on a page. New: supplements are also available on the iPhone version.
Both on the iPad as well as the iPhone you can read the newspaper offline after downloading. De Standaard subscribers have free access to the iPad edition
(this is not the case for weekend edition subscribers). The price for downloading one edition of De Standaard, including supplements, is 1,59 euro for a weekday edition and 2,99 for a weekend edition. You can also take out a subscription in the iTunes store: a weekly subscription (renewable) amounts to 4,99 euro. Buying single editions and subscriptions are managed directly in your iTunes account, in accordance with the iTunes rules and regulations: during the time of your subscription you can download all available newspapers without extra costs. A new edition is published every day, excepting Sundays and public holidays.
